Crass Stupidity
If I were a cartoon I would have smoke coming out my ears today. I saw, for the first time, the paperwork needed in Britain, for a Home Information Pack, which is a delightful scam the government there has invented for getting money out of people when they sell a house. I cannot believe the stupidity of some of the many hundreds of questions. How about this...
Bathroom fitments...please mark Included, Excluded, None.
Taps, Plugs, Soap and toothbrush holders, Toilet Roll holders
and in External areas...
Water butts
Clothes line
Dustbin
Television and telephone...
Television aerial (in another part of the questionnaire it asks where is the television aerial)
Radio aerial.
Apart from the fact that I am mad at the idiocy of a person who would quibble over a toilet roll holder etc, it's a huge scam, an utter waste of printing and paper, an appalling waste of the seller's time, the buyer's time, the estate agents, the solicitors. And what a SAD, SAD reflection of what Britain has turned into.
AND; AND:::::A British estate agent here in Spain actually stabbed a guy to death two days ago over a house deal. What is wrong with the world?
I've got to find some nice music here.

You might just like to know that:
a. the government gets no money for a Home Information Pack (HIP), apart from a little bit of Value Added Tax on some of the things in it which was paid anyway before HIPs came in
b. The items you write about have always been in a form the seller fills in, for many many years before HIPs came in.
c. The form you refer to isn't a compulsory document in a HIP.
And the reason for the form? So buyers know what they are buying. Maybe you can explain why that makes you mad.
So in Spain do people just leave absolutely everything that is screwed down and take everything else? Always?
Like I say round here most people like to reduce the risk of problems by being a bit efficient. Is that a scam?
I'm not mad about everything. I can't understand why a toothbrush holder would be part of a legal document. In Spain they tend to type into the document what people are selling with the house while the seller and buyer are both there.
I sort of agree about the tooth brush holder but where do you stop? What you say they do in Spain sounds like it might be a good idea in some cases but many people need to ponder what they're taking with them, maybe don't know at that early stage. But we're climatised into the whole legal process taking ages after an offer's accepted, during which time so much can go awry. Hence the Home Information Pack to try to speed it up a bit and reduce heartache & hassle. But this government's implementation of it has been appalling & most of the property industry is so apathetic it makes ME mad. Oh, one thing, the HIPs are rarely printed out, usually made available online - I agree entirely about not wasting paper.
Like your cartoons & favourite film, mine also.
(whole lotta scenery though)
Oh well, I better not get mad at all. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed the cartoons.
